"The Tempest" is an upcoming American drama film based on the play of the same name by William Shakespeare. The film is directed by Julie Taymor and stars an ensemble cast. The Tempest is scheduled to premiere at the Venice Film Festival in September 2010.
Premise:
Prospera's throne is usurped by her brother, and she is sent off on a ship with her four-year-old daughter. They find themselves stranded on an island devoid of society. A power struggle develops between Caliban and Prospera due to her efforts to become a father figure to Miranda.

Production:
The Tempest, based on the play of the same name by William Shakespeare, is written and directed by Julie Taymor. The play's main character was Prospero, and Taymor changed the character's gender to cast Helen Mirren as Prospera.
Release:
The Tempest is scheduled to premiere at the Venice Film Festival in September 2010 as the festival's closing film. When Miramax Films became defunct during the film's production, Disney took over distribution through its division Touchstone Pictures. The film will be released to the public on December 10, 2010.
